New:
A new island can be created. Island size and climate zone can be set up comfortably
in the pop-up window (cf. on the right).
Note: Actually it's just water what you get here.
Usually you will rather load and modify an existing island, but the users
do expect this function...
Open: Loads an existing island into the Island Editor. The "official" islands that come with the game can be found under the Nord and Sued subdirectories. More islands can be downloaded from the internet.
Save: The current island is saved to disk. If it has not been saved before, you are prompted for a directory and file name.
Save as: You can store the island with a different file name. This way you can play with an island while still keeping the original.
Save as bitmap: The entire island is stored as a bitmap (BMP format) and can then be printed or inserted into other documents.
Revert to saved: The current island is reloaded from disk, i.e. all changes since the last save operation are discarded.
Close: The current island is closed, but all other loaded islands remain open.
Exit: The program is terminated. You will be prompted to save any unsaved modification.
Undo: The previous modification is undone. Currently there is only one Undo level.
Copy: The currently selected fields are copied to an internal clipboard.
Paste: The contents of the internal clipboard are pasted into the currently loaded island at the selected fields. This may be the same or any other island. Only the top left field of the area must be selected to enable this function.
Note: The copy and paste functions work with an internal clipboard, i.e. the copied fields can be pasted into the same or any other loaded island, but not to other programs!
Copy to clipboard: The current view (not the entire island!) is copied as a bitmap into the Windows clipboard and can then be pasted into other programs (like Paint).
Rotate area: The entire selected area is rotated by 90°, 180° or 270°. In case this area has not the shape of a rectangle, this operation may yield surprising results ...
Mirror area: The selected area is mirrored either horizontally or vertically. This means every field is moved to its mirror position and is rotated by 180°. This rotation will have the desired effect in most cases, but special fields (e.g. corners) will have to be rotated manually to their correct position.
Rotate fields: All selected fields are individually rotated by either 90°, 180° or 270°, but in contrast to Mirror area they keep their position.
Select: Select either the entire island or remove all selections.
Random tiles: A new window opens which allows to attribute randomly
chosen tiles of a certain group to the currently selected fields. Important:
The entries of the tile groups in the right menu of the window can be edited
in the file Random.txt together with their corresponding
ID numbers.
Note: The Edit Menu is also displayed by clicking with the right mouse button anywhere on the island!
Zoom out: Zoom out by one step.
Zoom in: Zoom in by one step.
Normal: Zoom to the standard (normal) view.
Zoom to window: Fits the island into the current window.
Properties:
Opens this window:
The Size controls allow you to set the Width and Height of the island, in units of fields. The smallest islands are 30x30, as maximum size we recommend 150 x 150. The Island Editor lets you also build islands up to 250 x 250, but these sizes are difficult to handle and susceptible to faults.
By extensive testing also of advanced situations, the island designer has to assume his responsibility for oversized islands to work well in the scenario editor and later on in the game!
Position defines the position of the island on the world map. This normally does not matter at all, since you can move the island in the scenario editor later!
Climate defines the island either as a northern or
southern
one, i.e. if there will be wine, sugarcane and tobacco or spice, cocao
and cotton. Of course you should also set the corresponding trees on the
island, though: fir trees on Hawaii would change a little bit.
If the option Adapt Trees is selected, all trees are automatically
adapted to the selected climate zone.
Note: The climate zone cannot be changed with every island!
Cascade: Cascades all loaded islands. Click on the title bar of an island to bring it to the front.
Tile: Tiles all islands. Only sensible with a few islands loaded...
Close all: All island windows are closed but the program remains open. You are prompted to save any unsaved modification.
Below that, all currently loaded islands are listed. Click on a file name to edit an island.
Manual: Opens this manual.
About: Opens an information window displaying the version, some copyright and warranty stuff, and 2 buttons with link to the official Island Editor Homepage or an email to Sir Henry.
